Have you been searching for a way to reactivate your thyroid gland?

An underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) is a problem that plagues many people. Your thyroid’s job is to make hormones and regulate your body temperature. When it’s not working properly, it can produce fatigue and other health issues.

What causes an underactive thyroid?

Generally, the culprits are poor lifestyle, such as eating unhealthy foods and not exercising enough. But this may not mean the end of the world – it means you can make changes to help yourself. This article outlines six tips to help you get your thyroid going again:

1. Change your diet
Your eating habits play a huge role in having an inactive thyroid. Keeping your metabolism going is important, and for this reason you want to focus on foods that are easy to digest.

Nothing slows the metabolism down more than difficult to absorb, heavy foods. Focus on high water content foods, like raw fruits and vegetables. They are the easiest foods to digest, and will give also you more energy.

2. Eat more frequently.
Aim for at least four to six meals a day, instead of the “usual” three. Try to space them no more than three to four hours apart. Keeping your metabolism working consistently is one of the best ways to improve its’ performance. Do not let it come to a crashing halt.

What about protein?
High protein content foods are often the hardest for the body to digest because of their low water content. For this reason, you want to focus on fish, nuts and egg whites and whole grains. Stay away from refined grains.

3. Drink lots of water
This will help clean your system, and in turn will help your underactive thyroid and digestive system to work faster.

4. Take herbs
There are many herbs found in your local store that will make a difference in boosting your hormonal output. However, if you have allergies, be sure to make your selection accordingly. Some of them can cause allergies to flare up.

What are the best herbs to use?
Some of the better ones are St John’s Wort, kelp, black cohosh, bladerwrack, and cayenne. You should start supplementing your diet with these.

5. Exercise vigorously
Intense exercise has proven to have great effects on hormonal output. Quite simply, while slow jogging and lower intensity workouts are better than nothing, they don’t compare with vigorous exercising, which skyrockets your hormonal output.

The bottom line: Simple diet and exercise changes are what are going to make the biggest different with your hypothyroidism. Implement these six tips, and you will see results shortly.

Did you know that if you have a healthy thyroid, you may lose a few extra pounds too?

For many, their thyroid disorder is the culprit for their weight gain. You need to have a healthy thyroid to maintain the balance of hormonal levels like the TSH and thyroid hormones. With this, your body and its metabolism functions will be working properly and the gaining of weight will be controlled.

Your thyroid is found below your voice box at the front of your neck. Your thyroid gland secretes the right amount of thyroid hormones to your body. If your thyroid hormone levels become too low, your pituitary gland acts to secrete the TSH or thyroid stimulating hormone. This hormone is responsible for producing more thyroid hormones for the body to use; the right amount of thyroid hormones and then in turn correct metabolism and control weight gain.

The most common symptom of having an underactive thyroid or hypothyroidism is weight gain. If your thyroid doesn’t produce adequate thyroid hormones then you may gain weight.

The thyroid hormone is responsible for regulating your body’s metabolism and a thyroid disorder occurs when there is hormonal imbalance. With this, the body requires less energy and the excess energy is stored as sugar and fat deposits. Like many thyroid sufferers, you may be eating less than the recommended daily calorie requirement yet you are still you are not losing weight.

Lack of energy, muscle cramps, depression, irritability and not being able to lose weight are common signs and symptoms for anyone with an underactive thyroid. Gaining weight leads to fatigue that may make you too tired to exercise and improve your metabolism and burn calories. If your activity is not increased, you may become very tired. And this then can become an undesirable pattern or cycle.

It’s the opposite if you are suffering from an overactive thyroid or hyperthyroidism. Here, you can lose weight but find it difficult to gain any. Trembling, difficulty of breathing or shortness of breath, insomnia and being over fatigue are among the common signs for this condition.

Consider consulting your doctor if you experience unexplainable weight gains and have your thyroid levels examined. Thyroid hormone therapy may be given to you if you have an underactive thyroid. Your doctor will monitor your progress from time to time.

Alternatively, try one of the many natural treatments available. Losing weight will not be an issue once you have corrected your thyroid problem and you will have more energy for doing work. Hormonal balance, proper metabolism and weight loss are then obtained.

I hope you found this article useful. If you are suffering with an underactive thyroid and want to lose weight, try nature’s remedies first.

Hypothyroidism (also called underactive thyroid) is a condition that’s characterized by the insufficient production of hormones by the thyroid gland to meet the body’s needs.

Hypothyroidism can still be treated and is very common nowadays. One of the most effective remedies for this medical condition is to treat it with herbs.

Some of these herbs can be found in your local market or even in your gardens and are widely available.

Many existing treatments for problems with your thyroid actually have herbs as their main ingredients.

But, for many, their thyroid condition can’t be cured just by using herbs. Treatment can be much more difficult if you have allergies to certain herbs. So be sure that you have undergone allergy testing and seek medical advice so you’ll know which herbs are safe for you to take.

Hypothyroidism can be treated using these following herbs that are readily available:

* St. John’s Wort: Depression, commonly associated with hypothyroidism, can be treated by using this herb. Underactive thyroid sufferers may experience some form of depression if their body’s hormone levels are below normal. A natural ingredient, your depression can be relieved by using this herb.

* Kelp: High concentrations of iodine are found in kelp. To produce hormones, your thyroid gland uses iodine and kelp will help to increase your body’s iodine levels, so that your gland remains active.

* Black Cohosh: Your hypothyroidism can be treated using this very powerful herb. Because of the problems caused by thyroid diseases during their menstruation, this herb is recommended for women.

* Bladderwrack: This also provides a rich source of iodine and can also be used to treat hypothyroidism. This herb helps prevent the progression of hypothyroidism in its early stages.

* Cayenne: Your body’s blood circulation should improve if you take sufficient levels of cayenne. It’s not uncommon for sufferers with low blood to use this widely available herb.

* Ashwagandha: This ancient Indian herb has been used for centuries to help alleviate the symptoms of an underactive thyroid.

Your underactive thyroid can be treated and managed quite successfully with these herbs. But you shouldn’t rely on this alone and you may still need mild medication and a well balanced diet to manage your hypothyroidism.

It can be extremely hard to lose weight when you have hypothyroidism.

But it’s not impossible for you to lose weight – even if you have a thyroid condition. You can shed weight with a proper diet and the right medication.

For many, consulting your doctor will be your first priority. Your medication may not be set at the right level, which may be why you’re not losing weight. That’s why it’s important that you manage your hypothyroidism and lose some weight by asking your doctor to adjust your medication.

Your exercise and diet is only going to work once you have resolved the medication issue. Getting at least 40 minutes of exercise daily and maintaining a well balanced diet would be the key for you to start losing weight.

You should eat more than 1,200 calories per day as part of your goal in your thyroid weight loss diet. The reason is because your metabolism will drop if you will eat less than this. You don’t want to risk that since your hypothyroidism has already decreased your metabolism, already making it harder for you to lose weight.

There are several food groups. Be sure to eat something from each group. You must eat fruits, vegetables, carbohydrates, proteins, dairy, and healthy fats in a balanced manner. Your diet will certainly fail if you disregard one food group as your body will “crave” for the missing food type.

You need to exercise. Working out for at least 40 minutes a day for six days every week is recommended. Weight or resistance training can be done for half of the time but the other half must be dedicated to cardiovascular training.

Burning extra calories can be achieved by cardiovascular training. You can also burn calories by building more muscle mass through weight training. Your metabolism can return to its normal level by developing extra muscle.

It’s a little harder to do the thyroid weight loss diet plan. The brain’s “chemistry” could have been altered already in some people. The brain’s serotonin levels in some patients with hypothyroidism are found to be insufficient. The result is that you may be full, but your brain may not send the correct signal to your body.

St. John’s Wort is a herbal remedy that can help you with this. But take it cautiously if you are taking other medications as it can cause some side effects.

It is possible to follow a thyroid weight loss diet plan. Have your doctor adjust your medication. Your exercise and diet would start to show you some improvements once you’ve done this.

Have you or a loved one been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism?

This common medical condition is one in which the thyroid gland, situated close to the Adam’s apple in the neck, is responsible for producing hormones T3 and T4. Essentially, an increase in the production of thyroid hormones affects the body’s cells and there are many symptoms that people suffering from hyperthyroidism may exhibit. However, the underlying cause of hyperthyroidism can differ from person to person.

Since thyroid hormones affects your body’s cells, your metabolism is also affected and this can have a direct effect on your weight. If you are diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, you should learn to recognise the symptoms.

One vital organ where the effects of hyperthyroidism are more pronounced is your heart. Your heart rate may increase, leading to palpitations, shortness of breath and chest pain.

What causes thyroid disorder?
Many people who are diagnosed with hyperthyroidism are affected by an autoimmune disorder called Graves’ disease. And in a small percentage, this thyroid disorder is caused because of a condition called nodular thyroid disease. A less frequent disorder happens because of viral or bacterial infections, causing an inflamed thyroid gland.

Your body’s immune system defends your body by producing antibodies that attack foreign substances found in your body. However in Graves’ disease, the autoimmune system produces antibodies mistakenly against the thyroid gland treating it as a foreign body. This causes a thyroid disorder, increases its size and causes excessive T3 and T4 hormone production.

Sometimes a part of the thyroid gland can be affected by disease and may be enlarged and painless. This enlarged portion of the thyroid gland develops nodules as the disease progresses untreated. These nodules are visible upon examination and may spread to the whole gland, which may or may not be cancerous. This condition is called “Toxic Nodular Goiter.”

Symptoms of the thyroid disorder hyperthyroidism
Besides the above-mentioned symptoms, several other indicators may persist. The more common are weight loss despite a voracious appetite, irritability, sleeplessness, diarrhea, muscle weakness leading to trembling hands, inability to tolerate heat and excessive sweating.

At the end of the day, you may feel feverish and experience extreme exhaustion but unable to sleep. Help is at hand and you should explore the possibilities of finding alternate solutions to alleviate the ill effects of hyperthyroidism.

An overactive thyroid can kick up quite a storm in your body because of the excessive production and release of the thyroid hormones: T3 and T4. The reasons behind the overactive thyroid’s erratic behaviour differ from one case to another; but the thyroid symptoms are always the same nevertheless.

The tell-tale signs are caused by the imbalance created in the body’s metabolism by the production of excessive thyroid hormones. These hormones control how fast or slow our metabolic rate runs, and consequently, how much weight we gain or lose. You need to learn how to recognise the effects of an overactive thyroid in your body.

One of the main effects is a racing, fast, and maybe even irregular heartbeat. This is because the thyroid hormone levels are among the factors which control the pace and regularity of your heartbeat.

What Is Behind An Overactive Thyroid?
The most common cause is an autoimmune condition known as Grave’s disease. Autoimmune disorders are a collection of diseases characterized by an abnormally active immune system that attacks parts of your body. In this instance, it attacks the thyroid gland increasing its size and causing an excess production and release of T3 and T4.

In some other rare instances, the excessive release of thyroid hormones is caused by a viral or a bacterial inflammation of the thyroid gland.

Sometimes, the gland is not diffusely hyperactive. A part of the thyroid gland may proliferate and show hyperactivity. This overactive segment can be felt as a single nodule in the neck. There are also cases where the whole gland is transformed into masses or multiple nodules which may or may not progress into a cancer. If this nodular enlarged gland is secreting excessive thyroid hormones, then the condition is known as “Toxic Nodular Goitre”.

Thyroid Symptoms and Signs.
An overactive thyroid may present by a variety of symptoms, the most peculiar being weight loss despite an increased appetite. If your thyroid is overactive, you might find yourself to be more irritable and short-tempered than usual. You might also feel slightly feverish, and feel muscle weakness and exhaustion at the end of the day.

Some other well-recognised symptoms of an overactive thyroid are: shortness of breath, palpitations (awareness of your heartbeat), tachycardia (rapidly beating heart), chronic inability to sleep, and hand tremors. Some sufferers of hyperthyroidism also experience a mild form of diarrhoea. But do not let these symptoms scare you.

As you will see when you explore our website, there are many natural solutions that can help you get a handle on your overactive thyroid and improve your quality of life.

Is that natural food you are eating good for your thyroid function? Many people believe that natural foods are good for them, helping them lose stubborn pounds and improving their overall health. This is not always the case, even with natural foods. Some natural foods contain plant compounds called goitrogens which can interfere with how your thyroid functions. Two natural foods that can interfere with the thyroid gland are peanuts and soy, and both can be found in many manufactured food products on the market today.

There are many people who have a diet that contains too much sugar and refined carbohydrates. These foods are not good for thyroid function, since they do not have any nutrients that are needed for the thyroid to convert the foods into what the thyroid needs to work properly. Many foods also contain chemical pollutants, pesticides, mercury, chlorine and fluoride, all of which can have a very damaging effect on the thyroid gland.

Interference With the Normal Function of the Thyroid Gland

Vegetable oils are highly processed, and they can be found in many manufactured products on your local store shelves. Many of these oils are made from soybeans. The molecular structure of the oil is changed when it is exposed to extremely high temperatures. This causes damage to the thyroid cells in your body.

When you are shopping at your local store, read all the labels on the processed food you are about to purchase. Most labels say the product contains vegetable oil, hydrogenated fat, partially hydrogenated fat, or margarine or shortening, but what the label is not telling you is that somewhere in that product is soybean oil.

Thyroid function is hindered by processed oils because:
a) Secretion of the thyroid hormone is blocked
b) Circulation is interfered with
c) The response from the cell to the hormone is altered

If something is interfering with your hormone and cholesterol levels, you can be sure it will also interfere with the function and production of your thyroid hormones.

If you are a vegetarian that indulges in soybean products, you may want to add more of a variety of beans and lentils to what you are now consuming in your diet. Since amino acids are a protein that you need in your diet as a vegetarian, and grains have these amino acids, add grains to your beans and lentils.

Besides being genetically modified, soybeans and soybean products are very difficult to digest. Instead of soybeans, consider buying organic tofu for a change-up in your diet. Organic tofu is not genetically modified, and is easier to digest since the soybeans are fermented.

To keep your thyroid functioning properly, and aid in losing weight, be sure to read all labels and avoid those foods that will deplete your energy and overall health.

Thyroid glands are responsible for producing two hormones called T3 and T4. The right amounts of these hormones are responsible for regulating our bodies and metabolism. These hormones are also responsible for our weight gain or weight loss, and how many calories we burn through our metabolic rate. Basically, the thyroid controls our metabolic processes within our bodies.

Did you know that the number of times your heart beats is dependent on how your thyroid is functioning? The heart is regulated by hormones, and if the hormones in your thyroid are not working properly, your heart can beat faster and irregularly. If your heart beats faster, it is due to our thyroidal hormones being out of whack. Our bodies and cells function according to how our thyroidal hormones are acting at any given time.

Hyperthyroidism is caused by the thyroid glands excreting too many thyroidal hormones. There may be many different reasons for hyperthyroidism to occur, but every person that has hyperthyroidism has the same exact signs and symptoms.

What Causes Hyperthyroidism?

Hyperthyroidism is in many cases caused by Grave’s Disease. Grave’s Disease causes the thyroid gland to enlarge, which then causes the thyroid to excrete an excess of thyroidal hormones. Grave’s Disease is an autoimmune disease, causing a person’s immune system to attack and fight their own thyroid gland. Excess amounts of the thyroidal hormone are then secreted.

Hyperactivity of the entire thyroid gland is not always responsible for hyperthyroidism. A single nodule inside the thyroid gland can also cause hyperthyroidism. These nodules are lumps or excess tissue masses in the thyroid glands, and can sometimes cause cancer. If the lumps are cancerous, the excess amounts of hormones secreted at that stage is called “Toxic Nodular Goiter”.

Thyroiditis, another cause of hyperthyroidism, is a very painful inflammation of the thyroid glands caused by a virus or bacteria.

Hyperthyroidism Signs and Symptoms

People that have hyperthyroidism tend to eat more and gain weight due to an appetite increase. They may also have a higher-than-normal body temperature and be exhausted at the day’s end. Irritability and anger can also be signs of hyperthyroidism.

Other symptoms of hyperthyroidism are more frequent bowel movements, loss of weight, hair loss, being nervous, unable to sleep, heart palpitations, trembling hands, and weak muscles.

Do you know the symptoms of hypothyroidism? Do you have an overweight friend who indulges in too much food, but blames their overeating on their thyroid? Many people do not believe that the thyroid is the reason that some people eat too much or are “lazy”.

Your friend may indeed have hypothyroidism, a thyroid gland disease that affects millions of people. Hypothyroidism is sometimes caused by a deficiency in iodine. An autoimmune disease, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis can also lead to thyroid problems. Other thyroid problems include a lack of a thyroid gland, a postnatal condition called postpartum thyroidits, and a deficiency in hormones coming from the pituitary gland or hypothalamus, a part of the brain.

Hypothyroidism symptoms include:
•	Gaining weight
•	Extreme tiredness
•	Weakness in the muscles
•	Poor performance in school or in mental concentration
•	Teeth develop slowly
•	Slow puberty signs
•	Goiter (a condition where the thyroid gland in the front neck is enlarged)
•	Sadness or depression
•	Speech is slow
•	Dry, brittle hair
•	Constipation
•	Skin is dry
•	Cramps in muscles

Hypothyroidism and Children

Some babies may be born with thyroid problems. Sometimes hypothyroidism comes along when you are older, depending on how and why the disease has developed. Babies and young children may have to live with and treat the disease for the rest of their lives.

Congenital hypothyroidism, (CH) is a the most common condition that may show up when the baby is born. In CH, the thyroid gland may be under developed, in the wrong place in the body, or just doesn‘t produce the hormones it should. A transient form of the disease may also occur, sometimes caused by the birth mother, who was being treated for Grave’s Disease during her pregnancy. This transient form often time disappears within a few months.

Older children, more often girls than boys, may be affected by an acquired form of hypothyroidism, which may affect the child for many years. This could very well be the results of Hashimoto‘s disease, an autoimmune thyroid disease.

PKU (phenylketonuria) or a blood test can be performed to check if a newborn child has hypothyroidism. This test can check if the child has any other health issues as well.

Since infants don‘t show symptoms of a thyroid disease, it is important to have the child tested as soon as possible so that treatment can be administered. If a baby‘s knees are not developed per-normal, x-rays of their knees and legs will be taken. This is another way to check for hypothyroidism in children.

To help determine if a child has problems with their thyroid, if is important to scan the child for an absent, improperly formed, or mis-located thyroid gland. Early detection and treatment of thyroid disease can save from any further damage.

Do you have an under-active thyroid? You may not believe you do if you are not experiencing any symptoms of pain. Many people are taught to believe that having a disease means suffering and pain, but that is not always the case with an under0-active thyroid.

Symptoms of an Under-Active Thyroid

You may dismiss the idea of having an under-active thyroid if your symptoms include gaining weight, you are extremely tired, or if you have constipation. You may be surprised to find out that these are common symptoms of an under-active thyroid. When your thyroid gland is working slowly and isn‘t up to par, you may also suffer depression and find that you are slowly losing your hair. You may want to think again if you have contributed all these symptoms to something else; you may indeed have an under-active thyroid. Under-active thyroid symptoms often mimic other diseases.

To boost your metabolism and help your under-active thyroid to work again, get up off the couch and do some exercises every day. Walking, running, bicycling, and swimming are just what your thyroid needs to function at full speed. Make sure that you are eating right too, and following an all-natural diet. Exercise and eating right will boost your metabolism and kick-start your thyroid.

Lose Weight With A Natural Diet

Weight gain is not uncommon with an under-active thyroid, and can certainly be an unwanted side effect. Under-active thyroid, also known as hypothyroidism, can be cured by regulating your diet. Eating an all-natural diet full of fruits and vegetables and drinking plenty of water and fresh fruit juice will help your body eliminate the toxins that are affecting your thyroid, which in turn will help you lose unwanted weight. A natural diet will also prevent hypothyroidism, and help prevent you from gaining extra weight.

The Internet is a great place to look for natural ways to cure your under-active thyroid. There are many websites that will give you information on how to lose weight naturally, along with effective ways to keep off the weight. Stay away from fad diets that promise to help you lose weight too quickly. Appetite suppressants, such as Acai berry are also not recommended, since they can cause you to suppress your diet for too long, upsetting your metabolism, and aggravating your under-active thyroid.
